Best Natural Weed Killers

Form
There are many natural weed-killing options available, some more suitable for specific applications than others.
Spray: Many sprays can directly be used to kill weeds. After being absorbed, the spray travels throughout the plant to kill weeds at their root. You should limit spray to the weeds only. Do not apply it during the windy season as the product could be carried to desired plants by the wind.
Liquid Concentrate: A liquid concentrate can be an option for those who are dealing with heavy weed infestations or large crops. The concentrate can be easily dilute with water and applied with a garden sprayer pump to large areas.
Powder: This dry type of weed killer is usually meant for broadcasting over specific areas to kill weeds without damaging desirable turfgrasses. Powders are similar to spray herbicides in that they can travel with the wind, killing nearby plants. Therefore, choose a calm time of day to apply them.
Salts: Any salt-containing product can kill any plant. To prevent contamination of your garden, you should take extra precautions when handling them. It could take up to years for the salt to dissolve in soil. Salt-based pesticides can be used in patio pavers and sidewalk joints, rather than in flowerbeds.

Our Top Picks
A top-rated organic weedkiller must kill all the plants that cause the problem to be considered a good choice. The organic weed killer should not contain any chemicals that can contaminate vegetables and leaves harmful residues.
Gardeners will have different needs, so the best organic weed killer for them may be different. Here are some natural weed killers that can be used to kill various weeds.

Doctor Kirchner’s Natural Weed & Grass Killer has a high concentration of ocean saltwater, vinegar, soap and other natural herbs that kill all types of vegetation. This is a non-selective herbicide that comes premixed and stored in a large 128-fluidoz-ounce jug.
This liquid can be used for mow lines, preventing invasive grasses growing between pavers and sidewalk joints. The natural weed killer quickly starts wilting plants within hours. The liquid has a long shelf life, so it will be just as potent the following year.

Rubbing Alcohol Weed Killer
It is easy to forget that some of the most effective natural weedkillers are also safe.
Torching – A torch can be used to eliminate weeds from pathways or other areas that you don’t want to allow plants to grow. Use caution, right folks?
Pulling – An old-fashioned and hated way to control weeds. Simply pull them! Make sure to pull the roots of perennial weeds. They come back each year.
Mulching: If there are a lot of weeds in your yard, you should trim them as much as possible. Mulch about 2 inches thick. You may be able to cover any mowed areas with newspaper or plastic if there is enough time. It is permanent, however it can take many weeks or even months. This option is great if you need to place sod in areas that have been overgrown by weeds.
Let Your Lawn Grow Taller – This is one of the most effective ways to get rid of lawn weeds. It allows grass plants to shade soil and helps crowd out weed seeds. The lawn will also grow longer roots and therefore a thicker top, allowing it to crowd out new weeds.
Ground Covers are a great way to get rid of weeds in large spaces. If you’re trying to eradicate weeds you must first give the plants some help. Ground cover cannot win the battle if they are allowed to pull hand for a while, allowing them the time to prevail over the weeds.
It is important to prevent your plants from getting to seed. This is especially true for things like dandelions. You will see a worse problem if they continue to spread. So if you don’t have time to hand pull them from the lawn, at least pick off those flower heads as soon as they appear to prevent spreading!
So learn how to make safe homemade weed killer, and have another tool in your gardening know-how arsenal. Your garden will be safe and healthy for pets, kids, and children. Don’t forget to be mindful that while a spray might kill weeds it could also harm other plants.

If you are an avid gardener, or not, have a beautifully manicured garden, or not, there is still something that connects us all – the frustration and pain of weeds!
Because everything springs up in Spring, we understand the frustration that weeds cause. You spend time carefully selecting and sowing your seeds and seedlings, planting bulbs and tending to your lawn, then suddenly out of nowhere and almost somehow appearing magically overnight, you find no end of unwelcome weeds all over your garden. Argh! These bugs are all over your flower beds and in between your fences, patio, and driveway. What do you do?
Before we find out, it’s important to see what we shouldn’t use and why as our first and go to option.
Glyphosate Banned by Australian Councils and The World
In a US landmark court verdict, a couple was awarded $2 billion ($AUD $2.89BILL) by a judge after Roundup was found to have caused them non-Hodgkin’ lymphoma. While the original payout was US $86.7 Million (AUD 123.9 Billion), it has been reduced by thousands to Roundup maker Bayer AG. Bayer is the subject of over 10,000 US class actions. A Melbourne gardener has filed a lawsuit in Australia against Bayer.
The number of countries and cities that have banned glyphosate has increased over the past few months. This includes Bayer AG’s home country, Germany. Angela Merkel said last month Roundup may be gone, stating that things are progressing and “we will eventually reach a point when glyphosate will no longer be required”.
Closer to the home, after an intern review, the Victorian Council MoyneShire has stopped using Roundup and nine other herbicides in June. Sydney’s Fairfield Council follows suit. There are several other Australia-wide councils currently reviewing Roundup, glyphosate or herbicide use. Sydney’s Blacktown Council, where 500 employees went on strike due health concerns, is just one example.
As countries and localities have been banning this pesticide, we believe that it’s now time to ban Roundup in our backyards. These are my top picks for natural weed killers. They are safe for pets and kids too. While some may be slow, others are quick and easy.
