Diaper rashes are inevitable in the life of your baby. No matter how careful you are, at some point in your baby’s life, the nappy areas will become irritated, turn red, bumpy, and may feel warm to the touch. In severe situations, blisters and open sores will emerge.

These signs show you that your baby has diaper creams (which is normal) and there is little cause for alarm. The safest and logical course of action to take is to get a diaper rash cream and begin the healing process.

When your baby develops diaper rashes, you don’t have to mule over it, all you have to do is to think of a quick solution like applying diaper rash creams.

Diaper Rash Creams are a different kind of body creams that are designed to protect, heal, and restore the natural feel of your toddler’s skin.

Other ingredients include calendula, soothers (like aloe), and vitamins.

All You Have to Know About Diaper Rashes

As a nursing mother, you probably dread those skin inflammation in the thigh, genital, and buttocks of your little one. However, diaper rashes can be curbed if you know things like…

Types of Diaper Rash

Diaper rashes are usually of four kinds, and their effect will vary from one child to another.

Irritant Rash: Usually caused by diapers, the Irritant rash occurs when the diaper is in touch with wet skin (from stool and urine). It is seen as swelling and redness of the skin.
Candida Rash: Also known as yeast overgrowth. Candida rash is as a result of yeast overgrowth which can be due to ammonia from urine, and tight diapers. It can be seen as swelling and redness around the creases of the bottom, testicles, and legs. Also, large bumps, blisters, and sores will be observed.

Allergic Rash: This is due to your baby’s allergy to certain foods, chemicals, soaps, and detergents. Although it’s relatively hard to identify, it can be seen as red or worn out skin. You can find it at the point where the allergen touches your baby’s skin.
Bacterial Rash: Typically caused by bacteria, it occurs where there are abrasion and a small cut on the skin. It’s seen as pus-filled blisters and well-defined rash in the anus region.

Causes of Diaper Rash

  • Irritation from prolonged exposure to stool and urine
  • Rubbing and tight diapers
  • Allergy to certain foods, chemicals, et cetera
  • Fungal (yeast) and bacterial infection
  • Transition From liquid to solid food
  • Sensitive/Delicate Skin

  • Treatment Of Diaper Rash

You can treat diaper rash by keeping your baby clean and dry. Also, try not to use tight diapers on your little one. However, if the diaper rash persists, diaper rash creams (like the ones listed above) should be used to manage and possibly cure the rash.

8. DIY Homemade Diaper Rash Cream

Cornstarch For Diaper Rash: Cornstarch is one of the best natural ingredients that can effectively cure diaper rashes. And you can apply these natural ingredients by following five simple steps. First, gently wash the affected nappy region with good soap and water. You should not rub it too hard — unless you’re willing to risk bleeding and severe skin irritation.

Second, after cleaning, the soap should be rinsed off your baby’s skin. During this period, you’ll let fresh air soothe the baby and ensure that the skin is completely dry. It is quickly followed by the application of cornstarch to the affected area. You can either apply the powered cornstarch by sprinkling it on the surface of the skin, or you make a paste (a mixture of cornstarch and petroleum jelly) and apply it on the skin surface.

Finally, a diaper or fresh cloth should be placed on the baby. And the baby should be monitored periodically to track the progress. You see, your baby’s diaper rashes can be quickly treated at home with the use of simple household items like water, soap, towel, cornstarch, petroleum jelly (optional), and a diaper.

However, diaper rashes caused by yeast infection are made worse by the application of cornstarch. In such cases where the severity of the rashes is increased, treatment with cornstarch should be stopped, and you should use alternative creams like the ones listed above.

  1. Susan says:

As a first time mother, finding the right diaper rash cream has been difficult. I’ve tried store brands and plain Vaseline which did not work for my baby. I finally found a cream called sudocrem which worked wonders. I also found that panaten (provided by the hospital as a sample) also helped a bit. The zinc in the cream really helps it be thick and prevents it from al melting away.
