Bibles For Bigger Kids & Independent Readers

Our favorite Bible stories are still revisited even though our children get older (and because our family has multiple ages), but around 6 years, the transition to full-text Bibles is made. We help our children develop quiet times between 6-8 years of age. Having their own Bible is not only exciting, but also important.

Recommended for ages 5+. While many people suggest this story Bible to younger children, I found it difficult to appreciate with my older kids. The JSB is a powerful tool that I find very impactful, even as an adult. I do not recommend the JSB to anyone younger than six, but I strongly recommend it to everyone. The DVD set is great for younger children, and you can watch it as part of your Jelly Telly International Children’s Bible subscription. The text is written for kids, which helps make it understandable, digestible, and applicable for kids.

While the ICB may not be the best Bible choice for Bible memory and the Bible that they bring to college, it is a wonderful transition Bible during the elementary years.

For kids who are reading our You Already Are devotional, the ICB is my recommended Bible. There are many options for covers and budgets. ), too.

NIrV Adventure Bible For Early Readers

This Bible is for ages 6+. The NIV Adventure Bible (8-14 years) is for ages 8-14. They are both word-for-word Scripture Bibles. My children found the book introductions and callouts throughout the text useful in understanding and applying the Scripture passages. Additionally, the fully colored images grabbed their attention without being too “babyish.” Additional “helps” in the book our kids have enjoyed include pages on “How to Prayer,” “Getting to Know Jesus,” among others.

*We bought this Bible for one of my daughters at 6 years old, and this Bible was the perfect fit for her. The softcover was our choice, but due to frequent usage and the need to carry the Bible to church we would recommend the hardcover.

The Ultimate Children’s Bible…after Buying Every One

I wanted to know without a doubt what the best Children’s Bible was.

So I went online to find the top Children’s Bibles available and decided to buy them all.

Ok, there are many kids Bibles out on the market, but I did my research and went to where I discovered the best Kid’s Bibles.

It is one thing to browse the Bible online. Amazon allows you to view the Bible inside, which can give you a feel for what might be in it. However, until you get it in your hands and use it you will not know how it feels.

Knowing enough about you, I realize that you are busy and don’t want to spend weeks looking through Bibles. This is the reason I’ve assembled this list of Top Children’s Bibles. You can browse the below list and make your own decisions about the best Bible for your child, or any children in your ministry.

I will end this article with my conclusions about Bibles. However, my goal here is not to endorse any particular children’s Bible. The following information will help you choose the Bible best suited to your children.

Charts by Action Bible Version. David C Cook is the author. Cover styles include hardcover, audiobook and Kindle. Superman transforms cars with his breath. However, God is the original action hero. Superman may save the day with his strength, but Jesus saved the whole world with His death.

Then, there’s the God-ordained humans that He chose to carry out His divine purpose. Samson fought an army made up of Philisitines and killed all the soldiers with only a donkey’s Jawbone. Find out how Esther braved the fury of a temperamental king in order to rescue God’s people. There are many action movies about Robin Hood and King Arthur every year, but Hollywood often forgets King David. He was a shepherd boy who lived in the outlaw life before becoming king. He was a part of history long before both of those legends.

The Action Bible doesn’t just tell the stories of the past. It inspires us today and here to make a difference. We are all flawed and chosen, just like the Bible’s heroes. What you will see on these pages is nothing when compared with what you’ll experience once this book is finished.

What’s the best children’s bible I can buy for my child?

RELEASED FOR 2021. I know that this blog is a bit crazy, but especially our loud family devotions. The spiritual nurturing that we offer our children is filled almost entirely with chaos, mess, and clutter.

I don’t say it because I’m proud but because I want to let you know that your family does not need to be flawless in order to bring Jesus to our children.

Actually, even if our family is messy, as if they were in need of encouragement …),, the beauty, and perfections of Jesus are often more apparent when it’s not so.

In all the busyness, though, one thing I’m super-keen on is that we make sure we have awesome resources for helping our kids in their walk with Jesus. Our dining room might be filled with half-finished projects, school books stacks, piles of mine, etc., but we also have a shelf of devotional resources for the family, bibles, and journals.

Let me get to the point. What’s the best Bible for children?

A Bible is an expensive, heavier purchase that parents do not want to make mistakes with. And if you’re a godparent, or a praying aunt/uncle/grandparent, a Bible makes a brilliant gift for a child or teen – but, again, it’s a hefty purchase only to discover you’ve pitched it wrong.

Best Toddler Bibles (0-4)

Let’s go back to the very beginning. Here are my picks of the very best Bibles that toddlers and baby can use right now.

This board book is perfect for both babies and toddlers. Children as young as two years old will enjoy the beautiful black and-white illustrations. The stories have enough text to keep older kids/preschoolers captivated. This makes an excellent gift and I have bought it for several baptisms.

Lion’s new offering for preschoolers is refreshing, as even Bibles meant for kids aged 3 and up are sometimes too lengthy. The book comes in hardback and is not a board book. This means that young children may tear the pages.

You can also use it with babies and toddlers. The stories are condensed down to just 2-4 pages (or smaller) and have colourful illustrations to help keep young minds interested.

I love how concise this is. Only the facts are provided, though there is plenty of opportunity to add stories for younger children.

This large, chunky book features 15 Bible stories and bright illustrations.

The ‘laugh’ portion of ‘laugh, grow’ was not something we found particularly funny, however, Phil Vischer’s easy-to-read style and relaxed tone make the stories relatable. Vischer is the original author of Veggie Tales & What’s in the Bible – which are both great to use with this book! The Beginner’s Bible for Toddlers. Although this book is not ours, we have read many of their spin-off Bible storybooks and we really enjoy them. While the images are engaging and bright, the text is concise enough to retain a toddlers attention. For very young children, this Bible is strong and attractive.

1. The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Stories For Children (0-4 Years)

For reader reviews, click on the cover art.

The Beginner’s Bible was lauded by parents for nearly thirty years as being one of the most useful Bibles available to very young children. This is largely thanks to its ease of reading and exciting retelling of famous Biblical stories.

It is my favourite part of the book, with its 512 pages full of vibrant and bright drawings. It contains 90 Bible stories including Noah’s Ark (the Tower of Babel), Jonah and The Giant Whale, as well as many other exciting ones.

Take a peek inside the building!

The Beginner’s Bible ranks among the top Bibles for children and will keep them occupied for hours.

2. The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name (4-11 Years)

Reviewers can click the cover art.

This Bible is already 10 years old. Yet, it’s still a bestselling classic today!

The majority of the best Bibles are focused on telling stories from both Old and New Testament. However, I adore how this book dives even deeper, with each story used as a chance to point directly to Jesus as the cornerstone of God’s salvation.

The simple, colorful illustrations are also a delight. They remind me of the old-fashioned style of children’s books.

The Jesus Storybook Bible contains 21 and 23 Old and New Testament stories respectively, making for ample reading time.

The Big Picture Story Bible is a storybook that covers Genesis and Revelation. This book tells God’s huge story in a way that appeals to young- to somewhat older readers. The quality of the illustrations and stories make this book a favorite among The Jesus Storybook Bible.

A lot of children’s Bibles are reluctant to teach the importance repentance. This can make it difficult for young children to understand. I am grateful for the TBPSB’s effort to incorporate such issues in an easily accessible, non-confrontational manner. In addition, the book also gives you free access to audio readings of each story, perfect for read-alongs!

The Big Picture Story Bible is my favorite Bible for kids. Check out the review below for more!

4. Laugh and grow Bible for Children: The Gospel In 52 Five Minute Bible Stories (4-8 Years).

Cover art is available for review by readers.

Anything written by the creator of VeggieTales can’t go too wrong. It’s a children’s Bible that is truly delightful.

Phil weaves 52 wonderfully illustrated Bible stories into this book. This is my favorite part of Phil’s storytelling. He doesn’t try to downplay God’s Biblical truths. It also includes maps and charts that you won’t find in any other children’s Bibles.

There’s also a Family Connection devotion at the end of each story. It gives parents the chance to teach their kids. Perfect!

6. The First Book for a Child (4-8 Years).

Cover art is available for review by readers.

This release, which I was awarded the ECPA Award for Best Release, is perfect ….. well, a child’s first Bible! This book has 125 illustrations that illustrate the Bible and is balanced between Old Testament stories and New Testament stories. It has simple, easy-to-understand texts and I like the questions that are added at each end. This encourages children to reflect upon what they’ve learned.

It measures just 5.5 x 7.8 inches. This makes it easier to take around than some of the other best Bibles to children.

I am unable to find a number of Bible stories that are important. Some of the key messages in these stories have been removed. Overall, however, A Child’s First Bible is a wonderful Bible that kids can use to start their faith journeys.

How many books of The Bible is a child supposed to read?

My personal recommendation is to start with Mark’s gospel for all children. It’s brief, simple and right on the mark. LUKE: The longest gospel, but also a good combination of action and teaching. This gospel also seamlessly connects with Acts so I would choose it as my second choice when choosing “where to begin”.
