The average American household doesn’t want to spend too much on groceries. Although it’s easy to do, you should not overspend on groceries.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi does not always sell at a lower price than Walmart. Aldi has outnumber Walmart stores 2-to-1. Walmart recently dropped prices on many Great Value brand items. Aldi may not be the most affordable, but it is usually only a small difference.
Let’s start by breaking down the most commonly purchased grocery items. Then, let’s see what happens when these two meet.
The following is the basic approach I took to keeping it simple.
Aldi and Walmart prices might differ slightly depending upon where they’re situated. Aldi does list prices online but not Instacart. In this case Aldi lists their prices on the website. My receipts date back one year.
Walmart.com had the following information: The address, and consequently the prices, were for a small town in the Great Lakes region.
Only popular groceries were compared, and I used the private labels of each store (if possible) to compare items. Items were weighed as closely as possible.
If there is no alternative, the items can be compared by price per unit or pound. I also noted any weight differences.
One final disclaimer: Prices are subject to change at any time, in any region. While I have aimed for accuracy, this is a snapshot of a moment in time and is not intended as an official price list in any capacity.
Aldi comes out ahead of Walmart when it comes to produce prices.
Aldi stores have been criticised by shoppers for not being able to deliver the best produce. However, they receive new deliveries every day and rotate the stock – the oldest product is at the top.
*Note: Tyson was the only brand that had comparable pork loin at Walmart.
Aldi has a clear advantage over Walmart in all aspects of meat prices.
*Note: Walmart carries only Thomas brand bagel thicks.
Walmart doesn’t sell its own brand bagel thins so I substituted the Thomas brand. Walmart does not compare favorably with their own brand of bagel thins.
In all but three categories here, Aldi’s bread prices win the day.
Aldi’s specialty, vanilla flavored ice cream isn’t comparable to Walmart prices. Walmart makes their own.
Aldi offers a comparable product, so you’ll save two bucks! They are extremely popular.
Walmart is still competitive in the rice and pasta category. Aldi’s instant white rice rival is also a strong competitor.
That said, if you eat a lot of rice and you have a rice cooker, the bag of Jasmine rice from Aldi is your best bet to save money over the long run.
Walmart is a great place to save if your family loves Triscuit knockoffs and chips. Aldi, however, is the clear winner in almost every snack category.
Walmart is cheaper than Aldi when it comes to raw honey, though that’s not surprising given Aldi’s post-WWII history of being a grocer offering the best basics needed for rebuilding a country after a catastrophic event.
Aldi is the most affordable when it comes to stocking up on condiments and oils.
If you’re a regular baker, you have to appreciate Aldi’s ultra-low prices on these essentials.
The best-selling item in the box, with a 50c price tag of baking soda, is 32cs less than Walmart’s already pocket-friendly pricing.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for dairy products, although they can change quite frequently. Walmart has a slight advantage on butter prices.
To learn more about Aldi you can visit our other posts. These include Aldi vs Lidl; when Aldi restocks; Aldi vs Lidl; Trader Joe’s if Aldi is a Trader Joe’s owner, as well as how to shop Aldi.
Aldi can be a bit more expensive than Walmart sometimes, but this shouldn’t discourage you from buying. Aldi will not charge you more per item if you aren’t cooking a meal with seafood, but you won’t notice a significant difference in the long-term.
Walmart remains competitive with its Great Value brand. If you need other non-grocery products – such as office supplies, clothing, or video games – it won’t hurt to stop by your nearest Walmart Supercenter.
Are Aldi’S prices cheaper than Walmart?
Aldi and Walmart have store brands that cost less than brand names, while Aldi’s is more affordable. Walmart packages include five more bags that Aldi. But, it is still cheaper per bag.
Aldi really is that much more expensive?
The store sells everything at a very low price. However, many Aldi products are more costly than others, according to Reader’s Digest. Aldi has a limited supply of brand-name items, which means that you will pay more. Sep 14, 2021
Walmart price matches Aldi?
One bonus I will mention about Walmart: They will price match competitor ads. Aldi ads can be price matched at Walmart as long as they are brought to Walmart.
Are Aldi Prices Going Up?
These rates rose sharply after the pandemic. This is what you should consider: While prices had been considered stable for the past four years, they are 3.7% more costly in 2020 than 2019. December 4, 2021
