NFC or Near Field Communication (or NFC), has made contactless pay the easiest and most safest method to checkout with thousands grocers, retailers, and service providers.
Apple and other companies rely on NFC for their Apple Pay technology. This allows iPhone users to make payments online with their Apple Wallet or at cash registers.
Is Apple Pay accepted by the USPS? Your question, answered, below – and you might be surprised.
Is the USPS going to Apple Pay in 2022?
As of 2022, the United States Postal Service has stopped accepting Apple Pay and other NFC payments online. Instead, the USPS restricts customers to using traditional methods of payment like cash and credit card. Current card readers are equipped for NFC, but USPS keeps that technology deactivated.
Why does the USPS not accept Apple Pay
The USPS is yet to make a statement about their refusal to accept Apple Pay. However, Redditors are speculating.
The USPS has access to sensitive information of millions of individuals. Additionally, as a federal agency, its regulations are quite strict.
It could be the reason why post offices do not accept Near-Field Communication (NFC), such as Apple Pay.
This was also confirmed by the fact that, despite their being fully equipped for Apple Pay/NFC, my local credit card machine processed only basic debit card transactions at a remarkably slow pace.
It isn’t surprising that Apple Pay isn’t accepted by the USPS because of the need for high-speed machines and that USPS is a federal agency.
Does USPS Take Samsung Pay?
Strangely enough, although Apple Pay does not appear to be accepted by some locations, others accept Samsung Pay/Google Pay.
Some customers also report more recent kiosks in post offices. Samsung Pay users with any of these cards tied to their accounts have been allowed to use the above cards.
While it appears that the vast majority of post offices do not offer contactless pay, some do.
However, these locations do not accept Apple Pay as yet. Samsung phones can instead use SamsungPay to make payments.
It seems like the Samsung Pay system is caught on guard by clerks.
Redditor 1 commented that the signer had to use their PIN.
So while the NFC works, it’s not technically 100 percent “contactless,” because you do have to use the pin pad and a pen.
Unsurprisingly, another commenter met resistance as they attempted contactless payment. However, the manager insisted that their company would not accept payments via smartphones.
Maybe they didn’t turn NFC off at all?
PayPal is a good option to use for USPS payments
USPS and PayPal made it clear that they would enable customers to shop online via PayPal in June 2012.
The payment method is available only online, using USPS’s Click-N-Ship service.
It is an extremely popular benefit, with some customers choosing to use this method instead of using their card directly. PayPal, like Apple Pay, adds an additional layer of security to transaction.
PayPal is a great way to avoid entering financial information on a card into the USPS website.
The convenience of this mashup was for the consumers as most e-commerce shop owners can already accept PayPal payments for their products and services.

While USPS does not accept Apple Pay at this time, the organization clearly has all the pieces in place to do so.
USPS also accepts major credit/debit card and Paypal online. Some post office locations may even allow Samsung Pay.
