Walmart to Buy Target by 2022
Target, as of 2022 is no longer owned by Walmart. Instead, it is owned by the Target Corporation which was previously known as the Dayton-Hudson Corporation until 2000. Under this (now popular) new name, the Corporation runs 1900+ discount and mass retail stores across all 50 U.S. states.
Who Created Target
In 1962, the Dayton Company established Target with the intent of opening a store for bargain-seekers who wanted a quality experience.
Target, as an established department store retailer when it first opened in 1994 was considered risky by some experts.
The company grew from a small family-run departmental store chain into a major discount retailer in America. It currently operates over 1,900 Target locations across the United States.

The Target Corporation was originally founded in 1902 as the Dayton Dry Goods Company. George D.
Dayton set out to discover the Midwest’s growing markets. He found Minneapolis the best place to grow, and built his first Dayton Dry Goods Store in Nicollet Avenue.
Years later, in 1962 Roseville, Minnesota, opened the first Target store. The company expanded in Denver in 1966.
To better reflect its core business, Target Corporation was established in response to years of national expansion.
