How do I get USPS Delivered to My Door?
Living with mobility difficulties can make it impossible for some Americans to even get the mail.
There are a few steps you need to take to ensure that USPS delivers mail and parcels to your doorstep on a consistent basis.
A mailbox on the opposite street to the house might work well for someone with a disability.
This could include someone with chronic, debilitating pain who lives in an apartment on ground floor that has a central mail center.
You will need to complete the request form and submit it. A note from your doctor is also required in order for your request to be approved.
You can also find the USPS website “…you must write a request for this change” So make sure to include your personal statement attesting that you need door delivery.
Once these documents are together, you send these to the post office that delivers your mail.
For assistance in locating the correct post office, you may call to request information.
You can also try sending an email, but that will take longer to get a response.
After the documents are submitted, we will wait for our response. The individual post offices make the final decision about which household will be taken along its route.
The USPS may deny you if your spouse or partner lives with you, regardless of whether you’re disabled or sick.

Carriers will be able to find the most secure place for your mail, whether it’s in an apartment building or neighborhood with designated mailbox spaces.
Additionally, if the mailboxes are inside, in a foyer, they will likely deem that safe enough for a passerby to leave it there.
If it’s a cluster of mailboxes outside near a road, like in a trailer park, the mail carrier can use their best judgment. You might have to bring packages one by one.
However, there is one caveat to having your package delivered at your home: if you need to sign for it.
You cannot leave items that need a signature in the mailbox or at the door.
The carrier will take those items back to the postoffice. They will also leave a note that they tried to get a signature, but nobody was there.
